about

Chawasarira (also sometimes sung as Chamasarira) is a jiti style song, played on mbira by the Chigodza family recorded for the upcoming album by The KTO Project: Mafaro eZimbabwe.

Chawasarira is a song of encouragement, asking how or why did you remain behind? Come on let's go to Zimbabwe!

Musekiwa Chigodza and his son, Tinashe Chigodza are playing jiti style mbira. This song is performed in a typical jiti style celebration with lots of vocals and hosho.

This is the title track to the upcoming album "Mafaro eZimbabwe" which is an homage to Zimbabwe, by The KTO Project.

The album features two styles of music: Roots (traditional/acoustic) music from Zimbabwe and Branches (electric) music inspired by Zimbabwean music.

KTO and Musekiwa Chigodza have been friends and have performed since 1994, when KTO lived in Zimbabwe with the Chigodza family.

Musekiwa has also been KTO's mbira teacher and she is thrilled to highlight his outstanding musicianship through this song.
